Check the Bylaws and Local Ordinances of your new Neighborhood

When you are moving with a pet, it makes it even more important to do your research prior to the moving day.  There are many communities that have restrictions in place that could affect you and your pet.  An example of this is if you are going to be moving to an apartment complex, making sure you check with the community leaders to make sure they even allow your type of pet into the residence.  Another big one is to keep in mind that some neighborhoods may have specific breed or weight restrictions on pets that restrict you from residing in the community.  Just make sure, before signing the lease on your new home, you do your homework and avoid the risk of a surprise violation if your pet isn’t permitted in your new home community.

Schedule a Vet Visit

Prior to moving into your new community, make sure you take your pet to their vet and make sure that they are all caught up on their vaccinations.  Get all required medications that they need and obtain a copy of their most recent medical records.  One of the first things you should do after getting settled, is to create a list of local veterinarians in your new community–scheduling an appointment, and meeting some to make sure you are a good fit.  It may also be beneficial to talk with your new neighbors, not only do you get to know the great new people, but they may have recommendations of great local vets.

Updating Contact Information

Ok, so you’re all moved in, then your little guy/girl gets away, what do you do?  Make sure the information on your pets ID tag is current and up to date.  If your pet is microchipped, it is very important to ensure that the information on the chip is current and up to date, too. Moving Day – Schedule Friends or a Kennel

Moving day is stressful enough.  There are tons of people coming in and out of your home.  All of that extra movement and noise can create an extremely stressful environment for your pets.  If available, ask a friend or family member if they would be willing to pet-sit for the day.  If you don’t have anyone available, consider checking out local kennels for a day, the cost should be minimal and it will make life for your pets so much easier.
